[1. Who Do You Want to Watch Your Videos?]

Starting a YouTube channel sounds exciting.

You imagine getting views, building an audience, monetizing your videos, and eventually making money from your content.

But before you jump in, we want you to answer five questions.

Taking a few minutes to think these through could save you months of creating videos without a clear direction.

1. Who Do You Want to Watch Your Videos?

Don't say everybody.

Are you creating content for students, business owners, job seekers, gamers, or people who want to learn a specific skill?

The clearer you are about your target audience, the easier it becomes to figure out what videos to create and how to make them useful.

Action Step: Describe your ideal viewer in one sentence. Who are they, and what do they want help with?

2. What Niche Will You Focus On?

You don't need to talk about everything that interests you.

Choose a topic you can consistently create content around and that people are interested in watching.

It could be personal finance, technology, education, gaming, or something else entirely.

You can always expand later. For now, give people a clear reason to subscribe.

Action Step: Grab a pen and paper and write down three video ideas you could create within your chosen niche.

If you're already struggling to come up with three ideas, you may need to rethink your niche.

3. What Type of Content Will You Create?

Will you show your face, create faceless videos, record tutorials, make documentaries, or use screen recordings?

There's no single format that works for everyone.

Choose one that fits your skills, budget, and the kind of content your audience wants to watch.

For example, you could teach people how to use software through screen recordings without ever appearing on camera.

Action Step: Choose one primary video format to start with.

4. How Often Can You Realistically Publish?

Be honest with yourself.

Can you publish one video a week? Two videos a week? Or just two videos a month?

Don't create a schedule based on excitement. Create one you can stick to, even when life gets busy or your first few videos barely get any views.

Consistency becomes much easier when your publishing schedule fits your lifestyle.

Action Step: Decide how many videos you can realistically publish each month and commit to that schedule for the next 90 days.

5. How Do You Plan to Make Money From Your Channel?

This is where many aspiring creators get it wrong.

They assume making money on YouTube means earning ad revenue.

But that's just one option.

Depending on your niche and audience, you could also make money through affiliate marketing, sponsorships, selling services, or promoting your own products.

You don't need to monetize your channel right away, but you should have an idea of how it could eventually generate income.

Action Step: Choose one primary monetization method to work toward and one alternative to consider later.

Remember, getting views and building a profitable channel aren't necessarily the same thing.
