Title: Is Upwork still worth using for beginners?

I've noticed the buzz around Upwork has quieted down lately on my feed. Is it still actually worth it for beginners to start on Upwork today, or has the ship sailed?
Please I need an honest answer and direction of how to get started. Thanks
