There are thousands of ways to make money from home, but only a few of them will actually make you money.
I am no expert in any of these, but I have been making money from home for the past 10 years, and based on my experience, these are some of the things I am confident will work.
1. Start a Blog and Monetize It with Google AdSense
Quite popular. Many people, including me, are doing this.
The basic idea is simple: you create useful content around a particular topic, attract people through search engines and other channels, and monetize the traffic through advertising.
I've been doing this with Legit Remote Jobs, although LRJ has grown beyond just a blog.
The important lesson I've learned is that blogging isn't really about writing articles and waiting for Google to send you money.
You need to create useful content that people are actually searching for and, more importantly, build an audience around a specific problem or interest.
It can take time before your traffic becomes meaningful, so I wouldn't recommend blogging if you're looking for quick money.
But if you're willing to build something over time, it can become an asset.
2. Create a YouTube Channel
I have done this before, and I cashed out before selling the channel to a popular Nigerian skit maker to raise money for another project.
I ran a faceless YouTube channel teaching data analysis and basic Microsoft Excel.
It took me 7 months to get monetized. But knowing what I know now, I don't think it would take me more than 3 months to get monetized.
You can make videos on almost anything in the education or entertainment space.
Just a mic, a quiet environment, editing software like CapCut, and a laptop are all you need to get started.
You don't necessarily need to appear on camera either.
If you know something people want to learn, teach it.
If you can entertain people, entertain them.
If you can explain complicated things in a simple way, that's a business opportunity in itself.
The biggest mistake is thinking you need expensive equipment before you start.
Start with what you have. Improve as you grow.
3. Sell a Service
This is the advice I would give any beginner.
If you are good at something, sell that skill. If you can create social media content, become a social media manager.
Become a freelancer.
You can make money selling your skills as a video editor, voice-over artist, whiteboard animation expert, graphic designer, or anything else you are good at.
I can write a full 1,000-page book on this.
If you are good at something, then you can make money online.
Getting clients is the easiest part.
The internet has created a huge marketplace where you can sell your skills to people and businesses anywhere in the world without leaving your house.
And you don't necessarily need to create something completely new.
You could take a skill you already have and package it as a service.
The question is simply:
What can you do well enough that someone else would be willing to pay you to do it for them?
That's where I would start.
I'm curious, though.
If you had to choose ONE of these three today, which would you choose — blogging, YouTube, or selling a service?
And more importantly, why?
Let's hear what everyone is thinking. Maybe someone reading this has already made money from one of these and can share their experience with the rest of us.
