If I had no digital skill today and someone gave me 90 days to learn something I could potentially start earning from online, I would not try to become a programmer, graphic designer, video editor, SEO expert, copywriter and digital marketer at the same time.

I would pick one simple service, learn it properly, practise it, create proof that I can do it, and then start looking for people who need it.

Personally, I would choose social media management.

Why?

Because businesses already have social media accounts, but many business owners don't have the time, consistency or knowledge to manage them properly.

And you don't necessarily need to be an expert to start.

Month 1: Learn the basics

For the first 30 days, I would learn:

- How Facebook and Instagram work
- How to create simple graphics with Canva
- How to write captions
- How to create a content calendar
- How to research content ideas
- How to schedule posts
- Basic engagement and community management
- How to turn one piece of content into several posts

I wouldn't spend the entire month watching courses. I would learn something and practise it immediately.

For example, if I learn how to create an Instagram post, I would create three.

If I learn how to write captions, I would write five.

The goal isn't to "finish learning." The goal is to become capable of doing the work.

Month 2: Practise like I already have a client

This is where I would take it more seriously.

I would choose one type of business.

Maybe real estate agents.
Maybe restaurants.
Maybe fashion
Maybe small online businesses.

Then I would create a fake social media account or use a sample business and manage it as if the owner had hired me.

I would create:

- 2–3 weeks of content
- Content ideas
- Engagement strategies
- A simple monthly report

Now I have something important:

👉 Proof of work.

I would use that page as my portfolio to pitch prospective clients.

Month 3: Stop learning and start selling

By the third month, I would start contacting potential clients.

And I wouldn't send: "Hello sir, I am a social media manager. Do you need my services?"

I'd actually study the business first.

For example, if I find a real estate agent whose Instagram hasn't been updated properly, I could say:

"I noticed you're posting properties regularly, but I think your page could do more to turn your content into conversations with potential buyers. I put together three content ideas specifically for your page. I'd be happy to show you."

Now I'm not just selling "social media management."

I'm showing the person that I understand a problem and can create value.

And I wouldn't limit myself to Upwork or Fiverr.

I'd look for clients where they already are.

👉 Instagram.
👉 Facebook.
👉 LinkedIn.

My first objective wouldn't be to make $1,000.

It would be to get one person to trust me enough to pay me for solving a problem.

My first client gave me my first experience.

That experience gave me a testimonial.

That testimonial brought my second client easier.

The second client gave me more proof.

And gradually, I increased what I charge.

But here's the bigger lesson.

If I had no digital skill today, I wouldn't ask:

"What skill can make me money online?"

I'd ask:

"What problem can I learn to solve for someone who already has money to pay for the solution?"

That's a completely different mindset.

The internet is not the business. The value you create is the business.

A company doesn't really care that you know Canva. They care that you can help them consistently create content.

A client doesn't pay you because you learned a skill. They pay you because your skill solves a problem for them.

So if I were starting from absolute zero, my 90-day target would be simple:

Days 1–30: Learn the skill.
Days 31–60: Practise and build proof.
Days 61–90: Find people with the problem and offer the solution.

And I would measure success differently.

Not:

"Can I make ₦1 million in 90 days?"

But:

"Can I become good enough at one useful skill that somebody is willing to pay me for it?"

If the answer becomes yes, you've crossed an important line.

You're no longer just someone looking for ways to make money online.

You've started becoming someone who creates value online.
